Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information Skegness Aquarium collects when you use our website, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it and the rights you have over it.

Skegness Aquarium is run by Teen Spirit Ltd, which is the "data controller" responsible for your information. You can contact us about anything in this policy by emailing reception@skegness-aquarium.uk or writing to Skegness Aquarium, c/o Teen Spirit Ltd, 111 Lumley Road, Skegness, Lincolnshire PE25 3LL.

This policy was last updated in October 2026.

What we collect and why

We only collect information you give us, or that your browser sends when you visit, for the reasons below. UK data protection law requires us to have a lawful reason ("lawful basis") for each, which we show in brackets.

  • Contact, party and dive enquiries. Your name, email address and phone number, and the details you give us about your enquiry, so we can reply and arrange what you have asked about. (Legitimate interests in answering enquiries, or taking steps towards a booking you have asked for.)

  • Job applications. Your name, contact details, the position you are applying for, your message and your CV, so we can consider your application. (Taking steps towards a contract of employment at your request, and your consent, which you give on the form.)

  • Our newsletter. Your name and email address, so we can send you news and offers. (Your consent. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.)

  • Bookings and shop orders. When you book an experience or buy from our shop, your booking and payment are handled by our booking and shop partners (see below). We receive the details we need to provide what you have booked or bought. We never see or store your card details. (Performing our contract with you.)

  • How you use our website. If you accept analytics cookies, information about the pages you visit, the device and browser you use, and how you got to our site. This is collected without identifying you by name. (Your consent.)

  • Keeping forms free of spam. Our forms use a check that looks at technical information from your browser to tell people from automated spam. (Legitimate interests in protecting our website.)

We will not sell your personal information, and we will not use it for marketing unless you have asked us to.

Who we share it with

We use trusted companies to run parts of our website and business. They only use your information to provide their service to us, under contracts that require them to keep it secure:

  • Brevo sends our newsletter.

  • Resend delivers the messages you send us through our website forms.

  • TimeTap handles dive and snorkelling bookings.

  • ROLLER handles admission tickets.

  • Shopify runs our online shop and gift vouchers.

  • Google provides Google Analytics and the maps on our site.

  • Microsoft provides Clarity, which shows us how visitors use our site.

  • tawk.to provides our Ask Bruce live chat.

  • Cloudflare protects our forms from spam.

  • Laravel Cloud hosts our website and the database where enquiries are kept.

Some of these companies are based in, or store information in, countries outside the UK, including the United States. Where that happens, the transfer is protected by safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK–US data bridge.

We may also share information if the law requires us to.

How long we keep it

  • Enquiries are kept for up to two years after we last hear from you, so we can refer back to them if you get in touch again.

  • Job applications are kept for six months after the role is filled, unless you agree we can keep them longer.

  • Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe.

  • Booking and order records are kept for six years, as UK tax law requires for financial records.

  • Website analytics are kept by Google Analytics for up to 14 months.

How we use cookies

A cookie is a small file that a website saves in your browser. Some are needed for the site to work; others help us understand how the site is used. We only set cookies that are not strictly necessary if you agree to them.

Cookies used by Skegness Aquarium

When you first visit our website we ask which cookies you're happy for us to use. Nothing beyond the strictly necessary cookie below is set until you choose, and you can change your mind at any time from the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.

Strictly necessary

skeg_consent Remembers the cookie choices you made, so we don't ask you on every page. Expires after six months.

Analytics (only if you accept analytics cookies)

_ga, _ga_TNV0NVTEFE Set by Google Analytics to count visits and show us which pages are used, so we can improve the website. The information is collected anonymously. These cookies expire after two years.

_clck Set by Microsoft Clarity, which shows us how visitors use our website through anonymised heatmaps and recordings of visits. It gives your browser a random ID so a visit can be grouped together. Text you type into forms is hidden from these recordings. Expires after one year.

_clsk Set by Microsoft Clarity to link the pages you view during a single visit into one recording. Expires after one day.

Chat and maps (only if you accept chat and maps)

Our Ask Bruce live chat and the Google Maps on our website set their own cookies when they load. They only load if you allow "Chat and maps".

Booking and shop

When you book an experience or buy from our shop, you're taken to our booking and payment partners (TimeTap, ROLLER and Shopify), who set their own cookies under their own policies.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;

  • ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete;

  • ask us to delete your information;

  • object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it;

  • withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on it, for example by unsubscribing from our newsletter or changing your cookie settings;

  • ask for information you gave us to be passed to another organisation.

To use any of these rights, email reception@skegness-aquarium.uk or write to us at the address above. There is no charge, and we will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Our website links to other websites, including our booking and shop partners. Once you leave our site we are not responsible for how those websites handle your information, so please read their own privacy policies.

Security

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to keep your information secure and to prevent unauthorised access, loss or misuse. Our website is served over an encrypted connection, and access to the enquiries we receive is limited to the staff who need it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example when we change how our website works. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated at the top.
